Was an American hip hop group formed by former East Coast musicians 50 Ct, Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks. After releasing several singles in the early 2000s, the group released their debut album Beg for Mercy in 2003, which shipped over four million copies in the US and was certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. During Tony Yayo's arrest in 2003, the group recruited Tennessee rapper Young Buck as a temporary replacement and official member. The Game changed his name in late 2003 in an effort to promote him after he was signed to Aftermath/Interscope, but was dropped from the group a few months later. In April 2008, Young Buck was removed from the group due to his personal problems. In July 2008, the group released their second album, T·O·S (Terminate on Sight), featuring the first three.

In early 2014, Yayo and 50 Ct both announced that G-Unit no longer existed. However, the group members reconciled and reunited soon after, now forming a quintet, with a reunion with Young Buck and the addition of G-Unit Records artist Kidd Kidd. The group performed at Summer Jam 2014 and released their first project in six years, The Beauty of Independence EP, in August of that year.

In 2018, Kidd Kidd announced that he was leaving the entire group and label to go independent; Lloyd Banks and Young Buck followed after controversial arguments with 50 Ct.

In 2022, the 50th Ct confirmed that the group had left and said there would be no more union, citing disagreements with other members.

The group's founders, 50 Ct, Lloyd Banks, and Tony Yayo all grew up in South Jamaica, a neighborhood in the Ques neighborhood of New York City, New York, and began rapping together as teagers.

50 Ct immediately signed both Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo to the label and began working on a G-Unit album, but Tony Yayo was in prison at the time and was unable to record anything new for the album, leading to 50 Ct signing the rapper from to Tnessee Young Buck on G-Unit Records and then added him to the group.

Following the signing of Young Buck, G-Unit made their first appearance as a group on the remix to 50 Ct's single "P.I.M.P", which featured Snoop Dogg, Banks and Young Buck.

Later in November 2003, the group released their debut album, Beg for Mercy. The album featured guest appearances from R&B singers Joe and Butch Cassidy, and production was handled by top producers such as Hi-Tek, Dr. Dre and Scott Storch, among several others. 50 Ct also served as the album's executive producer.

Game first appeared as a member of G-Unit on Lloyd Banks and Young Buck's first albums, The Hunger for More and Straight Outta Cashville. Beginning in 2005, conflict began to rise between 50 Ct and The Game, and shortly after the release of The Documtary, the conflict escalated into a massive fight that led to 50 Ct announcing that The Game had been released from G-Unit, with 50 Ct claiming that he did not received full credit for writing it, six songs from The Documtary.

The two assaulted a 14-year-old boy, leading to Lodi Macks' arrest. He spent two years in prison and in 2009, Jimmy Hchman hired a hit man to kill Lodi Mack. In 2017, Jimmy Hchman was found guilty of murder and is now serving 2 prison terms.

On April 7, 2008, in an interview with Shanna Leviste on New York's Hot 97 FM, 50 Ct stated that Young Buck was no longer a member of G-Unit, but was still signed to G-Unit Records.

50 Ct said issues related to drug addiction and claims by Young Buck's public that checks didn't pay and "inconsistent behavior" by Young Buck, such as appearing on stage with former Cash Money partner Lil Wayne, appear to be against him. G-Unit was the main reason he was removed.
